Add And Verify WordPress Blog In Google Webmaster Tools: Optimizing blog for search engines is the most important step. The primary focus of any bloggers is to get most of the Google. Like other bloggers, I hardly care about Bing, Yahoo, Yandex and more search engines but except Google.

Most of the newbies ask me for SEO tips, ways to increase traffic. And also, how to get higher rank in Google search results. In such cases, I always recommend using Google Webmaster Tools. Usually like any other bloggers, I am more concerned about how my blog get crawled and which part of content get indexed by Google, Google webmaster tools help you in this matter.

Google Webmaster Tools is a free service offered by Google to give bloggers a look at how your website or blog is seen by Google. It also provides various other reports and data that are invaluable to a bloggers or website owners like how different pages are appearing in search engine and traffic analysis of your blog or website, you can submit sitemap to Google, improve you blog articles and thus improve your blog as a whole.

For getting the benefits of this free awesome free tool by Google, firstly you should verify ownership of your website. Google lets you verify ownership of your website using the following methods:

  • Domain Name Provider
  • Upload an HTML file
  • Meta Tag
  • DNS Verification

Now you must know how to verify your self-hosted WordPress blog with Google webmaster tools. So here is the guide on how you can verify and add your WordPress blog to Google webmaster tools.

Method 1: Verify Your WordPress by Uploading HTML file Using FTP

Login to Google Webmaster Tools and add your site, you will be asked to verify your site ownership. You will see various options for site verification but in this method, we will be taking about verify site by uploading an HTML file. So download the file and upload the file to your website’s home directory once you are finished with uploading confirm successful upload by visiting the link shown in step 3 into your browser see screenshot and finally click on verify to complete with your WordPress site verification.

But I won’t recommended this method as you must have FTP client installed on your PC and it may look quite difficult to many. So go for the alternate methods for site verification.

Method 2: Verify Your WordPress Site using Meta Tag Verification Method

This method is most easiest and cleanest method to verify your site ownership in Google webmaster tools. But Before to be able to use this method for site verification, you need to obtain HTML meta tag for your site. To obtain meta tag, firstly login to Google webmaster tools, and add your site URL by clicking on add new site.

In the next page, you will be asked to verify your site ownership,  click on the alternate method and select HTML tag, Just copy the meta tag. Your meta tag would look like the one in the screenshot.

Now we have obtained the meta tag and Now you can use any of the following plugins to add this meta tag for completing with site verification.

  • Insert Header And Footer Plugin: Download and activate Insert Headers And Footers Plugin. after activation Go to Settings >> Insert Headers and Footers and paste the meta tag in the header field and click on save settings.Once you are finished go back to Google Webmaster Verification page and click on verify button.

  • Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin: Download and Install Yoast WordPress SEO Plugin. Once you are finished with the installation, In the left plane go to SEO >> Dashboard, Under Webmaster Tools you will see option “Google Webmaster Tools” just paste your meta tag here and click on save settings. Once you are finished go back to Google Webmaster Verification page and click on verify button. You can also check out guide to set up Yoast SEO for WordPress.

  • All In One SEO Pack Plugin: Download and Install All In One SEO Pack Plugin. Once you are finished with activating this plugin Go to settings > All In One SEO and under “Additional Home Readers” paste meta tag into the text area. Go back to Google Webmaster Verification page and click on verify button.

Method 3: Verify Your WordPress Site by Adding Meta Tag In Header.php

You can also verify your site ownership by adding a meta tag to header.php file of your theme. To verify using this method edit header.php file of your theme and place meta tag after <Head> but before first <body> section. Once you are finished go back to Google Webmaster Verification page and hit verify button.

Method 4: Verify Your WordPress Site Using Domain Name Provider Method

You can also verify your site ownership in Google webmaster tools by signing in to your Domain Name Provider. Just select and sign in to your Domain Name Provider. You can also add a TXT record for site verification. You can also check List of Best Domain Name Registrar.
